Vibrant Pigments
My exploration of painted “facture” has allowed me to reassess my understanding of what paint is and does. There is much to explore in commercial consistency, however, I have become more enamored with the power of naturally sourced pigments. My early introduction to the universe if Earth pigments comes from being a fan of the Wild Pigment Project, For the Love of Soil, Bergette Pigments, and Lauren Sauder’s Geology of Color.
This work grows out of an ongoing study of Jane Bennett’s Vibrant Matter, Lucretius’s On The Nature of the Universe, Orleans-Lawrence’s How the Materiality of Paint is Intrinsic to the Work of Art, Francisco-Salazar’s Thinking with Soils: Material Politics and Social Theory.
