The Painter’s Mark Series
There are two primary ingredients making up my work; one is facture, or evidence of making. Facture is captured gesture, like a thumb print in a wet piece of clay or the dried fleck of splattered color on the studio light fixture. It appears as rows of grooves made by thick bristles or as a series of little crescent moons made with a fingernail. Facture is evidence of the subjective; it points to the mark-maker and their many decisions regarding tools, techniques, and application.
